See A New You With Facial Implants in Scottsdale

For some individuals, their appearance may be the source of overwhelming self-deprecation and could even cause depression. This could be caused by sunken or barely visible cheeks or chin that aren’t proportionate to the face. If you are unhappy with the shape or proportions of your face, Dr. Pamela Henderson of New Image Plastic Surgery may recommend facial implants.

What are facial implants?

Facial implants are used to enhance the structure of the face and restore volume within the cheeks or chin. Volume loss could be caused by excessive weight loss or general aging and can be corrected with the use of such implants. Cheek implants, also known as Submalar implants, and chin implants can restore symmetry to a face that is otherwise sunken or misshapen in appearance. Implant procedures can be combined with other procedures such as liposuction, neck lifts, and facelifts.

Am I a good candidate for facial implants?

Facial Implants in ScottsdaleIf you are a healthy non-smoker who is unhappy with the shape or proportions of your face, you may be a good candidate for facial implants in Scottsdale. Patients should have healthy expectations for the procedure.

During your consultation, Dr. Pamela Henderson will examine your face to evaluate the bony projections of the face compared to the jaw and forehead, as well as the proportions of the lips and jowls. The soft tissue volume will be examined to determine the laxity and thickness in relation to the surgery. If Dr. Henderson feels you are a good candidate, she will schedule a preoperative appointment two weeks before your surgery. Her medical assistant will discuss preoperative care and review consent forms for the procedure.

What can I expect during the procedure?

Patients are generally placed under anesthesia using IV sedation and local anesthesia in our in-office surgical suite. Facial implants are considered an outpatient procedure, allowing patients to return home within the same day.

For cheek implants, Dr. Henderson prefers an intraoral approach, which involves an incision where the cheeks meet the upper gums. The tissue is gently lifted to insert a sizer implant before the final implant is placed. Once desired results are achieved, the incision is closed with absorbable sutures.

Chin implants are performed similarly, although the incision is made externally under the chin. Women typically elect for a soft contoured appearance while men prefer more squared and pronounced chins. Once the implant is inserted, it is secured in place with internal sutures and the incision site is closed.

What is the recovery process like?

Some swelling is expected, although bruising is far less common. Dr. Henderson may prescribe pain medication but in many cases the pain is minimal. Following cheek implants, patients should avoid straining or stretching of the face. After chin implants some mild numbing and limitation of mobility of the area is expected and will cease within a few weeks.
