How young can you start botox

Scottsdale Botox

Botox is the most popular nonsurgical anti-aging treatment in the US, and it has been for years. Many people turn to botox to soften unwanted wrinkles and grooves on the face. Often, people wait until they have significant signs of aging to think about starting botox. However, beginning botox at younger ages could actually help to prevent these signs from ever appearing.

How young is it appropriate to consider “prejuvenation” with botox? Why would someone consider getting botox if they don’t even have wrinkles yet?

Botox can be started in the late 20s or early 30s

By their late 30s or early 40s, many people are beginning to notice fine lines and wrinkles forming as a result of their repeated facial expressions. This is when many people decide to seek botox, because they’ve noticed the problem and they’d like to turn back the clock.

However, it’s important to remember how botox works. It doesn’t actually affect the skin itself; rather, it affects the muscles. Botox quiets down the action of the muscles, in order to prevent them from causing the skin folds that ultimately lead to wrinkles.

Because of this, botox actually works better for preventing wrinkles before they happen than it does for getting rid of wrinkles that are already present. If you already have wrinkles that you’re concerned about, then it’s not that botox won’t help; it certainly can help to soften them over time. (Dermal fillers can also be helpful in this situation, to fill in wrinkles and grooves.)

At the same time, botox may be even more helpful if injections are started at a younger age, before any wrinkles have formed. By quieting the actions of particular facial muscles, it can stop those wrinkles before they ever get started. This can help to maintain a smooth and youthful look as a person ages. This is why some people choose to begin having botox injections in their late 20s or early 30s, while their skin is still relatively smooth and unlined. We sometimes refer to this as “prejuvenation,” or preventative rejuvenation. Rather than seeing aging and then treating it, botox can be used to prevent some of the visible signs of aging from occurring in the first place.
