Dr. Pamela S Henderson M.D., P.C gives a brief overview of her practice at New Image Plastic Surgery, Scottsdale. She tells how she got interested in this line of medical practice during her college time. What motivates her most is the difference she can make in the patient’s life in both, physical and emotional terms. Patients feel more confident after getting treated by her and that can be seen in their eyes. After consultation, Dr. Henderson ensures that the patient is given enough time and space to take the decision so that he or she doesn’t feel pressurized.

She emphasizes the importance of a personal consultation with the patients on their first visit as they get to know about their doctor and the treatment they are going to receive. It is imperative to know the patient’s viewpoint on the treatment he or she wants, to determine the nature of treatment required.

Patients really appreciate the hands on approach of Dr. Henderson and her team. She has teamed with another general plastic surgeon in Scottsdale and they both really know how to take care of their patients.

I basically knew what I wanted to do starting in college and at that time I was interested in medicine but hadn’t quite picked what I wanted to do and had actually entertained obstetrics at one point but I was watching a program one evening on facial reconstruction from congenital birth defects and I thought that’s really cool. I really want to be involved in working on faces. I enjoy what I do, I love operating, I love interacting with the patients.

When a patient comes back obviously the objective part we can both look at and you know thats exciting in itself but having the patient emotionally change their feelings about themselves is even more of an impact. And it maybe just that people telling them they look refreshed and the family members are telling them they look refreshed. And you can see that in their confidence, you can see that in their eyes.

All consultations are done by myself. Although I do have my medical assistant involved in terms of after my consultation, meeting with the patient, may be to discuss scheduling or pricing and that sort of thing. But it is a personal consultation with me on the first visit. And I think that’s important for the patients to know who their doctor is going to be, not just hear about the practice when they first come in. Then once they’ve had that consultation if they feel comfortable enough they can schedule. I don’t ever want it to feel though, like it’s a pressurized situation. They can go home and think about it, talk to their family members. Well, I think patient involvement in this process is very important. I like to know when they come in what is it that bothers them. Me looking at them telling them what they need is not necessarily what they want and I want to know first of all what is it that’s bothering them. Every once in a while you get the answer back well you tell me what do you see. But I still like to hear it from them you know again what bothers you, how can I help that. I think the thing I hear the most about our practice and I say are, because I do work with a general plastic surgeon is that we hear a lot that we are very approachable. We seem to really care about our patients. It’s not just about you know the business, certainly not just about making money. I think we both reflect that we enjoy what we do and that we are proud of our practice and that we are proud of our staff. I think I would never have chosen anything differently. I love what I do.
